Most of the time, the transition home is made with the patient seated in the passenger seat of a car. It is important that the seat is high. At home, for the first few days, the patient will need some help with cleaning, cooking, and personal hygiene. During this phase, the patient wears a brace-belt, which stabilizes the spine.
During recovery, it is advisable to set realistic goals regarding the return to daily activities. Usually, more rest is needed to allow the body to recover from the stress of the operation. A higher intake of calories from a well-controlled diet is also required, along with avoiding smoking and refraining from excessive activities like walking or running, at least in the initial period after the surgery.
Most patients leave the hospital within 24 hours days if the surgery is minimally invasive, or after 3-5 days for larger surgeries, then they return to the clinic for stitches and incision check-ups.
The return to work typically occurs 2 weeks after minor surgeries and after a month for major surgeries.
