Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery

In November 2013, I had the great honor of being awarded by the “Hospital for Special Surgery“, the leading orthopedic hospital in the United States, for my volunteer work.
The award ceremony took place during the 95th Annual Meeting of the Hospital for Special Surgery Alumni Association, and the award was presented by the hospital’s Chief Surgeon, Dr. Thomas Sculco.

The recognition came after completing a total of eight missions in Ghana with the organization FOCOS (Foundation for Orthopedics and Complex Spine; www.orthofocos.org), and I am the first Greek doctor to receive this award.

The doctors of FOCOS have performed surgeries on hundreds of children from sub-Saharan Africa suffering from severe spinal deformities (kyphosis–scoliosis), from the organization’s founding in 1998 until today.
