Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery
In November 2013, I had the great honor of receiving an award from the Hospital for Special Surgery, the leading orthopedic hospital in the United States, for my volunteer work. The award ceremony took place during the 95th Annual Meeting of the Hospital for Special Surgery Alumni Association and was presented by the hospital’s Chief Surgeon, Dr. Thomas Sculco.
The award was given in recognition of my eight missions in Ghana with the organization FOCOS (Foundation for Orthopedics and Complex Spine; www.orthofocos.org). I am the first Greek doctor to receive this award.
Since its founding in 1998, FOCOS doctors have performed surgeries on hundreds of children from sub-Saharan Africa with severe spinal conditions (kyphosis and scoliosis).
Traveling Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society

In 2012, I had the honor of being named a Traveling Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society. Every two years, three spine surgeons from around the world are selected for this prestigious fellowship. Accompanied by a distinguished figure in the field—Dr. M. McMaster in 2012—the fellows visit leading spinal surgery centers in the United States.
In 2012, the centers visited were located in St. Louis, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Dallas. The fellowship involved collaborating with prominent surgeons, such as Dr. L. Lenke, and delivering lectures.
Χειρουργός Σπονδυλικής Στήλης
- Ο Χειρουργός Σπονδυλικής Στήλης/ Σκολίωσης Δρ. Ηλίας Χαρ. Παπαδόπουλος γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα. Αποφοίτησε με Άριστα από την Ιατρική Σχολή Αθηνών το 1994 και στη συνέχεια ειδικεύτηκε στην ορθοπαιδική, στην Α’ Ορθοπαιδική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.
